DGS Delicatessen features modern Jewish cookery in Dupont Circle.
Chef Barry Koslow takes inspiration from the classic delicatessen, while pushing the cuisine in a new and exciting direction. DGS offers 8 day house cured meats, duck fat matzo balls, hot smoked salmon with horseradish crema and chicken schnitzel with shallot caper relish.
DGS believes that delicatessen, German for good eats, comes from the soul of the old World Jewish kitchen. In that spirit, DGS brines, cures, smokes and pickles everything served on premises. We source our ingredients from responsible farms that look after the welfare of the animals and the land.
Beverage Director Brian Zipin has crafted a beer, wine and cocktail menu amplifying the bold flavors of the delicatessen. Imbibe at the 10 seat bar in the back of the restaurant.
The delicatessen was born in Eastern Europe. It traveled with the wave of Jewish immigrants to America where the cooks of our grandparent’s generation set up the smokehouses, appetizing stores and food carts that guide our vision today. These scrappy urban pioneers inspired our name. DGS is a nod to the mom-and-pop District Grocery Stores that lined street corners in DC at the turn of twentieth century.
DGS Delicatessen is owned by 3rd generation Washingtonians and cousins Nick and David Wiseman.
